I’m a bestselling author and National Book Award finalist. My latest book is an adult novel, THE SMASH-UP, which will be published by Random House in spring 2021. Inspired by an Edith Wharton tale of a small-town love triangle and set during the week of the Kavanaugh hearings, THE SMASH-UP is a tale of a strained marriage during volatile times. More on that soon.
I’m best known for my children’s novels. My 2015 novel, THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers ) was an international bestseller and a National Book Award finalist.
THE NEXT GREAT PAULIE FINK (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2019) is about an oddball school in the middle of the woods and a group of misfit kids who decide to hold their own reality TV-style competition. (And goats. It’s also a little bit about goats.) The book earned multiple starred reviews and made many year-end “Best of 2019 lists.”
Prior to these, I co-wrote several books, including Tim Howard’s bestselling THE KEEPER, (both the adult and young readers’ editions, both from HarperCollins 2014); and Paige Rawl’s POSITIVE (HarperCollins 2014), a coming-of-age memoir which was a Junior Library Guild selection and the first-ever nonfiction selection for The Today Show book club.
